Candle Care Guide: How to Get the Most From Your Candle

Follow these simple guidelines to enjoy every burn safely and beautifully.

Before Your First Burn

The very first burn sets the memory of your candle.

First Burn Recommendations

8 oNever extinguish your candle before a full melt pool forms during its first burn.

Typical Burn Time

Because our candles are made with natural soy wax, burn time may vary slightly depending on your environment.

Candle SizBurn time depends on proper wick maintenance and following the care instructions below.

Proper Wick Care

Before Every Burn

Trim the wick to ¼ inch (6 mm) before lighting.

A properly trimmed wick helps:

  • Produce a cleaner flame

  • Reduce soot

  • Prevent mushrooming

  • Extend candle life

  • Create an even melt pool

Burn Time Per Session

Do

✓ Burn your candle for 1–4 hours at a time - depending on the size of your candle. This allows the wax to melt evenly without overheating the jar.

Don't

✗ Burn your candle for longer than 4 hours continuously. Extended burns can cause:

  • Larger flames

  • Excess soot

  • Overheating

  • Faster wax consumption

How to Prevent Soot

While soy candles naturally burn cleaner than paraffin, soot can still develop if the candle isn't properly maintained.

To Keep Your Jar Clean

  • Trim the wick before every burn

  • Keep the candle away from fans, vents, or open windows

  • Avoid moving the candle while lit

  • Remove any wick trimmings, matches, or debris from the wax

  • Extinguish gently rather than blowing forcefully

Caring for Your Candle Jar

Your candle jar is designed to be reused or refilled.

  1. Avoid allowing debris to collect inside the candle.

  2. Never use water on hot glass or ceramic.

  3. Keep the outside of the jar clean and dry.

When the Candle Is Finished

Stop burning when approximately ½ inch of wax remains.

Burning below this level can overheat the vessel and increase the risk of damage.

  • Burn on a heat-resistant surface.

  • Keep candles within sight while burning.

  • Leave at least 4 inches between burning candles.

  • Allow the candle to cool completely before touching or moving it.

Never
  • Leave a burning candle unattended.

  • Burn near curtains, paper, or flammable materials.

  • Burn in a drafty location.

  • Place the lid on a burning candle.

  • Extinguish with water.

Extinguishing Your Candle

For the cleanest finish:

Use a candle snuffer whenever possible. If blowing out the flame, do so gently to avoid splattering wax. Allow the wax to cool and solidify before replacing the lid.

Refill & Reuse

One of the best ways to reduce waste is by giving your favorite candle vessel a second life. Once your candle reaches the end of its burn:

  1. Allow the remaining wax to cool completely.

  2. Remove the old wick and wick sticker.

  3. Wipe the jar clean.

  4. Insert your new candle refill.

  5. Enjoy your candle all over again.

Choosing refills helps reduce packaging waste while allowing you to continue enjoying the vessel you already love.
