Selah - A sacred pause
There are moments when we need to slow down, quiet the noise, and simply be still.
Selah was created with those moments in mind.
Inspired by the Book of Psalms, the name Selah is a word that appears throughout the Psalms, it is often understood as an invitation to pause, reflect, and consider what has just been said.
And that is exactly what inspired this candle.
Life can move quickly. Our days become filled with responsibilities, distractions, and plans for what comes next. Sometimes, we need a reminder to stop—to create space for prayer, reflection, gratitude, and simply being present with God.
Selah is that little reminder.
Throughout Scripture, we see God’s people practicing the sacred pause. They stepped away from the noise, waited on God, reflected on His faithfulness, and made room to hear His voice.
Stillness is not always easy. It requires us to release our need to control every outcome and trust that God is present, even when we cannot see what He is doing.
“But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.”
—Psalm 1:2
To meditate on God’s Word is to linger over it—to read slowly, consider its meaning, and allow it to shape our hearts. Selah invites us into that same posture: not rushing past the words, but pausing long enough to receive them.
The Word of God becomes deeply rooted in us when we make space to read, remember, and reflect. A quiet moment with Scripture can become a source of wisdom, strength, and direction throughout the day.
Jesus Withdrew to Pray
Jesus understood the importance of stepping away from the demands of ministry to spend time with the Father.
“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”
—Luke 5:16
Even though people were constantly seeking Him, Jesus made prayer a priority. He did not allow the needs and expectations of others to eliminate His time alone with God.
Before choosing the twelve apostles, Jesus spent the night in prayer:
“Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.”
—Luke 6:12
His example reminds us that sacred pauses are not signs of weakness or inactivity. They are places where we receive clarity, strength, and renewed purpose.
The Scent — The Apothecary
For Selah, I wanted a fragrance that felt just as peaceful and grounding as the meaning behind its name.
The Apothecary is a refreshing herbal blend of eucalyptus, lemon, fresh mint, wild sage, and rosemary.
Bright lemon and cooling mint bring a sense of freshness, while eucalyptus, sage, and rosemary create an herbal, grounding aroma. Together, they create a scent that feels clean, calming, and restorative.
Because sometimes we do not need to do more.
Sometimes we simply need to pause, breathe, reflect, and be still.
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
